| Born and grew up in Cape Town, studied graphic
design at the Cape Technikon and worked as an Art Director in advertising
for many years.
In 1992 Jennifer changed her focus to fine art and set up a studio at
home.
“I joined the ranks of the self-taught, studying
from books, and experimenting with oil paints and other media. I soon
realized that acrylic was ideally suited to my bold and vibrant style,
especially when I started working on large size canvases.
Colour is definitely my most powerful tool in expressing
what I have to say as a painter.
I brush, pour, spray, smear, scratch into, sponge on
and lift off, mask and glaze the acrylic paint onto the prepared canvas,
to create marks and shapes essential to visual imagery, to form curving,
sweeping waves of colour. Back and forth with texture and paint, working
3 or 4 paintings at once, this is a process of putting on and taking off,
playing around and waiting, until at last in my eyes I have a successful
picture design.
If I work with joy, passion and imagination I
feel it shows in my art. I feel extremely flattered that my paintings
have found their way into homes across the world”.
