| Juli Jana is a Capetonian by heart. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, She started drawing at an early age and studied art guided by Jack Lugg in East London.
She held a number of solo and group exhibitions in the 80’s. After her last exhibition at the Association of Arts in Pretoria she exchanged the brush for the keyboard.
Once a lover of colour and the brush, she is always a lover of the visual arts. She now has returned to her first love and feels that because of life’s experiences she is able to paint from within. Her love of life, the outdoors and all that is different is expressed in her work. She captures the joy and light of the subject. Her paintings are alive with colour and line and can express a fantastical or playful quality.
She has a passion for district six, the Malay quarter and Bo-Kaap in Cape Town and also the beautiful surroundings of the Cape with its harbours, cottages, open landscapes and mountains covered with fynbos.
Having been a farmer’s wife she has an attachment to the land, noting in her work the arrangements of fields and houses, clouds and mountains. Her works has included portraits, flowers, landscapes and abstracts.
She works in various mediums; oils, acrylic, watercolours, pastels and
inks.
