| Though Louis van Heerden resided in Johannesburg since 1979, he later spent some time paitning abroad in Switzerland and Paris. He taught at Pretoria Boys High School for 12 years and is a former National President of the SAAA. Education Louis van Heerden obtained a BA(FA) through the University of Pretoria. He continued his postgraduate studies at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam.
