Peace Petty was born in Johannesburg and attended St Mary’s DSG in Pretoria. She obtained a BA degree majoring in art and english at Natal University. She taught art and english at St Mary’s DSG and history of art privately, and coached matric pupils.

Peace began painting in 1990 and studied printing in the studio of Mimi van der Merwe. She has participated in many group exhibitions with the Tait Group, the Arts Association of Pretoria and of Centurian and is a member of the Watercolour Society of South Afirca, the Graphic Printmaking Guild and the Brush and Chisel Club.

She has had two solo exhibitions; at the Cafe Palatte, Pretoria Art Museum, and at the Tina Skukaan Gallery in Pretoria. Peace recently exhibited in a group exhibition at the Oude Libertas Gallery in Stellenbosch.

She works in various media; patel, watercolour and oils, which allow her emotional response to the human figure and flowers to find expression. In printing she develops ideas which spring from literature, poetry or memories, and uses figures to express mood, movement and pattern.
