SHIRLEY GILLIS
 
 

Shirley trained at the Art Department of Rhodes University, The Johannesburg Technical College, The Central School of Art in London and the Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town. She worked as a Graphic Designer under Ernest Ullman, a well-known Johannesburg sculptor and designer, and as a fashion designer in Cape Town for many years. Materials fascinate her, and she works in many different media, mostly clay, wood and marble. In this exhibition the key elements are embracing and continuous forms as well as that of the human body.
