Harold Mettler was born in Northern Cape Province and developed an interest in art from a very young age. He was taught by Gregory Bonzaier in 1986 and 1987 in Kenilworth - Cape Town "Oil Painting". He's also self-taught in bronze casting, marble carving, woodcarving, printing & Mix Media.
He had his own art school in the Belhar Library Hall from 1990 to 1993 where he taught children art up to grade 12. His works are currently included in an exhibition in the South African National Gallery- Cape Town. His works are in private collection in South Africa, Canada, Sweden, USA, Ohio, San Francisco, Singapore, Australia, Namibia & England.
After moving to Cape Town at the end of 2010, I found my teacher Laura Wenman. Laura’s classes have been extremely beneficial. Everything she has taught me, I have been able to take and apply to my own style, it’s no longer hit and miss, even though my paintings take on a life of their own. Painting is not what I am, it is who I am.
