Marion was born in Germany. She grew up in Johannesburg and now resides in Cape Town where she works and finds her inspiration.
In 1987 she studied at the Art Foundation Johannesburg, with Bill Ainsley. She then registered for a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at UNISA. Studying part time while bringing up a young family, she graduated in 1996.
Marion went on to complete a Postgraduate Fine Arts Diploma at Wits University and graduated with distinction. The body of work she produced was subsequently exhibited in 1999 at the AVA Gallery in Cape Town. It was titled 'Altered Landscapes'.
Marion's work is regularly exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at numerous galleries in and around Cape Town. She is a member of the South African Society of Artists (SASA) and the Constantiaberg Art Society (CAS). She has won commended awards as well as the 2008 and 2009 SASA Selection "Best of" award in the Mixed Media category.
Marion is passionate about art and the creative process of moving from an idea or concept to a completed painting. She enjoys doing representational as well as abstract work.
Her final year submission at Wits University took on very large proportions, using canvases with sizes in excess of two metres. They were all abstract, about the landscape and the 'Lay of the Land'.
In the pursuit of her passion she takes her inspiration from life. Her starting point may be an everyday object, or working en plein air, a landscape, or a seascape that she finds beautiful, pleasing to the senses and uplifting to the spirit. She transforms the source of inspiration to her own interpretation. Her work is often impressionistic, pushing the subject matter to abstraction using oils, acrylic, watercolour and pastel, often mixed.
Her paintings have been bought by collectors and art lovers from all over the world, including New York, Texas, Ohio, Miami, Abu Dhabi, Germany, Switzerland, England, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Scandinavia, Canada, Ireland, China and South Africa.
In order to grow and explore as an artist, Marion has attended workshops in other parts of the world such as England, Germany, America and China. She enjoys travelling, meeting new people and facing fresh challenges that will open up new doors on her painting journey.
