Steve Shooter is a South African born fine artist, living in KwaZulu Natal. As a child he was always drawing - everything from classic painting to faces and figures and anything else that inspired him. Upon completing his matric at Glenwood High School in 1977, he studied the piano. After doing his grades at Technikon natal and a year of Licentiate, he started his BMus, which was unfortunately cut short by the tragic death of his twin brother, Bruce.
Steve returned to his art and painted on commission, doing portraiture, graphic design, greeting card finished art and finally work for a group of top interior decorators and architects in Durban.
After joining the Watercolour Society of South Africa (WSSA), he was awarded 'Best on Show' and 'Highly commended'for his first ever entry "First Light, and the highest mark ever attained in the history of the society at the time. The following year, Sotheby's South Africa held the first all watercolour auction and Steve was invited to submit a work for this event. Amongst his many commissions is the piece he and his sister Eve Page (also a fine artist), completed for Makaranga Lodge in Kloof, a prestigeous lodge catering for the disabled.
Although primarily a "classisist", Steve is able to work in many different mediums and styles. He believes it is healthy, as an artist, to be as diverse as possible.
Music is still his passion and his friends include many prominent musicians and artists who inspire him immensely, including his close friend, the wonderful singer/artist Carol Kidd, with whom he shares his love for art and music.
He came to teaching by demand, starting off with Eve and then moving on to running his own classes full time. His teaching has also brought success to his students, who have won many awards.
