He was born in Piketberg in 1961 and spent his school years in Somerset East where he matriculated in 1978. He obtained a law degree at the University of Stellenbosch in 1985 and started practising as a lawyer in Cape Town in 1987. After being a part-time artist for many years, he finally left the legal profession in 2011 to become a full-time artist.
He did art classes with Izak Vollgraaff for a number of years and studied part-time at Ruth Prowse in Cape Town. He is an active member at both the South African Society of Artists and the Bellville Arts Association.
He works from his studio in Panorama, Cape Town.
His Work:
He concentrates on figurative work and urban landscapes. He especially loves recording the scenes in the older suburbs surrounding the Cape City Centre, and to do it in such a degree of particularity as to make the scenes instantly recognizable and true to its character. Oil is his medium of choice.
He has taken part in numerous group exhibitions over the last two decades, including exhibitions with the South African Society of Artists at Kirstenbosch, the Bellville Arts Association and the Stellenbosch Woordfees.
He has donated work for various charity auctions, including Art for Cancer from 2015 to 2018.
He did the artwork for the theatrical productions “Affairs vir Domkoppe” (2013), “Affairs vir Domkoppe 2” (2014), and “Ooms” (2016).
His work is currently available at selected Western Cape art galleries.
He has successfully completed numerous private and corporate commissions.
